Ryan's Bay

Next morning the 31 st July we set off again at 06:30 in thick fog and mist............tricky getting out of the bay with all the icebergs about and alot of brash & growlers.....all good though. Setting out for Ryan's Bay tonight........only a short run of about 50 miles.

Well.......what started out as a bit of fog ended up as the "best" fog ever ...according to Ding. I've never seen worse in my life................best at one point was about 50 m around the boat.
Icebergs in abundance and "growlers" everywhere. The radar picked up most of it, but it was exciting and wearing to say the least.
Cruised into Ryan's Bay in early evening, not a mountain to be seen..............then all, of a sudden............... boom the fog clears and we see this in front of us.........................just amazing, what a place !!!
Polar bear watch is now a serious issue.....................bears have been seen here in August for years !!!!
We have a rifle......................bought somewhere up the coast..........i won't say where, as it was an under the counter affair !!!!
However, we do have a rifle and ammo !!!!!
Gawd, very disconcerting !!!!!
I defo do not want to shoot a polar bear, so we have bear spray (pepper spray, only works within 5 metres !!!!!!) and a fog horn as back up !!!
