4th August
Windlass Creek..............65' 54' N, 62' 29' W
Windlass stripped down and we found the "woodruff key" has dropped out of the drive shaft from the bevel gear box to the main shaft to the windlass.........aha.....easy fix, which we did in about 1 hour. So, all ready, start lifting the anchor.......... great....all going well, then stop, the woodruff key must have dropped again !!!! We reckon the key has been worn down and is now too small for the keyway !!!!
DOH, stow the anchor and sort it later, we have another anchor on the bow........no worries.
Leaving Clephane Bay
Good run up the coast from Clephane to Cape Dyer...............some sections in fog, but generally quite easy .......not too many bergs, though Terje got the "Golden Growler" award today for hitting our first piece of sizeable ice !!!!.........Whallop !!!
Castle Island
15:30 hours (local), we pass 66' 33' N......................we're in the Arctic Circle............the transit begins .......yyyyyehhhaaaa....first thing we see......nothing but fog !!!!! LOL :-)
Around 18:30 hrs we arrived in "The Bay with no name".......66' 48' N, 61' 38' W.
No too sure Terje was impressed with his Golden Growler award.........the "Stoneface" cerainly did'nt crack into a smile !!!!! :-)
Main anchor stripped again and i've cleaned up the woodruff key and we reckon the way forward is to loctite it in place. So, cleaned and replaced..we'll see what happens when we refit it tomorrow in Broughton Island anchorage (a small Inuit village).
Leaving Clephane Bay
During today's run we passed through the Arctic Circle...............hard to get exact............66' 32.999' N............nearly !!!!
