Nain

Nain & Beyond

We decided to top up the diesel tanks here (blooming good job we did !!!!).
The wagon arrived just before we left on Monday morning................pouring with rain....who has his best yellow foulies on.......you guessed it ...........MOI !!!!.
So i get the job of filling the tanks with around 600 lites of diesel. The nozzle on the line from the wagon is clearly designed for 100,000  tonne cargo boats ...........it's huge.
Luckily our filling points are made of 50mm aluminium tube raised up from the deck..............."nah hassle" (that's for Rob & Karen :-)) Anyway, to cut a long story short, the nozzle is ancient as well as big and keeps sticking..............ooooooooooooooohh yes..........at the last minute it sticks solid....about 4 lites of diesel pours all over my leggings and into the sea..........aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh panic ....more hot soapy water quick to pour over the slick in the harbour.....................nightmare......luckily we soon disperse it........good job.............not so good my leggings. I tried everything to get the smell out of them..washed them, soaked, dragged them behind the boat in the sea for a few hours (a Terje suggestion.........no good) and they still stank !!!!
It took about a week to remove the smell !!!!!
On our way to the local hotel, we met a guy and his family, Junior (age about mid fifties) is the Moravian minister, funeral director and seemingly.mayor or Nain :-). What an ace guy, so welcoming and friendly. He and his family had been fishing. Weasked him the way to the hotel etc etc and h set us off in he right direction. Later, as we sat eating our meal, he came in and left us some lovely fillets of fresh Arctic char he and his family had just caught.
It was by far the worst weather day yet......rain , fog, low cloud, misty............
