Next Stop Baffin Island

1st August, off we go to Baffin  Island on a 05:00 start, watch rotation of 4 hours in sets of 2. Ding & i are on watch together and Steve & Terje on the other watch. In bad / cold / weather or icebergs we do 1/2 hr watchs outside while the other rests etc. If weather permits we either stand a 1 hour watch or check from the wheelhouse.
Bad fog as we set off first thing, then it clears about 08:00............then comes back again around 09:00.
Everyone is in good spirits and we are all getting on well together.............so far !!! :-)
We all give each other some stick.............Steve is Captain Hurry up, Terje is Rip Van Winkle.......always asleep or eating............we reckon it's his age, after all he is 66 nearly 67. I'm Dough boy....as i'm bigger & fatter than the rest of the skinny Herberts..LOL. Ding is Puffing Billy........his lungs are still bad........he keeps coughing bits of them up.....bit nasty. We keep telling him if he snuffs it on the way through, he's going overboard, we can't waste time with all that beaurocracy & paperwork !!!!!!! arf arf arf
Some amazing sights coming out of the fog today.......i've never seen a halo in the fog produced by the sun........and an iceberg beneath to boot.
Steve had a bit of a bad day yesterday...............his speeding fine came in (£125 + 3 points, because he was'nt in court to plead his case............ooooooo guess what he's 4,000 miles  away, which he had explained in emails etc etc.......plonkers) and the iridium phone and dial up went on the blink..........he spent hours on the phone to technical support...........not just wasted time , it also costs a fortune !!!

Passed 60 degrees North at about 10:30 hrs today. The next big one is 66 degrees 33 minutes ..........the Arctic Circle !!!!
Cape Chidley floats by.....that's the top of Labrador. So, we bid farewell to Labrador and at last we see the end of the fog...(it had plaqued us from Ryans Bay all the way to Cape Chidley).....for now !!!!
Let's see what Baffin brings us. We have decided to trap on to  Exeter Sound, 66' 10' N, as we have a good weather window until Sunday night......it also gets us nearly up to the most Eastern point of Baffin ( Cape Dyer), ready for the run up the coast to Clyde River and then Pond Inlet.
63' 03' N, 62' 45' W.............Lady Franklin Island peeped through the cloud...........and the sun is trying to come out................yipppeeee !!!

Iceberg as we leave and the fog clears

Amazing halo effect as we pass an iceberg, never seen anything like it.........shame my camera is not a bit better
