Clyde River

12th Aug
Ding & i bring us into Clyde around 03:00 hours..................fog for a while then it clears and the rain starts. We anchor off the town, there are 3 reasonably small bergs near us, so we keep them to our lee as best as we can, just in case they move over night.
The day dawns and we all get into the dingy except Tel, he is going to clean the boat while we are in town on the internet. As a matter of courtesy we always pop in to see the RCMP guys. We have the craiche with them for 10 minutes or so........... where we've come from and going to..........they then tell us another boat was in last week....."Dodo's Delight"............wow exclaims Steve, that's Bob Shepton (one of Steve's heroes). He's in Sam Ford Sound they reckon.......well that's where we are off to.......we'll try to find him.................brilliant.
Steve, Ding and i get the washing done at the hotel and catch up on some of our internets / blogs etc etc. Managed to get a few minutes with Bryn on the  phone via skype , which was ace.
I went back to the boat to pick Tel up and we spent the rest of the afternoon at the hotel. In the hotel were a couple from Wisconsin. They were doing a tour around Baffin by plane. A Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Bob and his Roma were a great pair, both in their late 70's. Fair play to them. They had flown in from Resolute on Cornwallis Island yesterday and were due to fly out to Pond Inlet today. They went for their flight at 16:00, got there and it was cancelled !!! Back they came to the hotel.
On their return we had a good chat to them. Bob told us about Resolute and it's history. Apparently a number of inuits were resettled there by the government in the 1950's. They were promised if they did'nt like it, they would be picked up next season. There was a military station already at Resolute, it appears the conditions were so bad that year, the Inuits only survived due to hand outs from the cook at the base. Next season the governemnt came back and shot all their dogs to ensure they did'nt leave.....................turns out, the government wanted settlers there to ensure the Russians had no claim on it !!!! Nice move !!!

The best anchorage we could fins was between 2 bergs !!!
